As much as Christmas is all about eating, drinking and spending time with your loved ones – sometimes all you want to do is snuggle up with a tub of popcorn and indulge in the guilty pleasure of your favourite festive film. Luckily, London has you covered!

The Prince Charles Cinema is hosting all manner of festive, family and cult classics this season. Some of their most popular screenings are their sing-along events – you’ll have a blast belting out the songs from The Muppet Christmas Carol! Alternatively, catch the Die Hard double feature or an epic screening of all three Lord of the Rings masterpieces. The Christmas Pyjama Party runs on Sat 21 Dec, where six favourites will be screened back-to-back.

2) Festive Films at London Zoo

With a valid ticket to the zoo, you can swing by one of the free film screenings taking place at London Zoo this Christmas! The selection includes children-friendly classics including Santa Claus: The Movie, The Polar Express and Elf in the 12:30pm slot, and date-night rom coms are shown at 4.30pm. So if you ever wanted to catch Hugh Grant wriggling his behind whilst tigers roar in the background, this is your chance!

 

3) Winter Pop-Up Cinema

Nestle down in a bean bag to enjoy a screening of a holiday classic at Southbank’s snug pop-up, right by the Thames. Their schedule caters for family audiences, with plenty of Disney and Pixar on the agenda – whether they’re festive or not. Choose between Moana, The Little Mermaid and Finding Nemo and you’ll still feel the London chill melt away. Some of the screenings are free, but you will need to book in advance.     

 

4) The Secret Forest at Harvey Nichols

Harvey Nichols has given their fifth floor a Northern Lights inspired makeover for the 2019 Christmas period. This dreamy hideaway serves ice cream cocktails and Nordic savouries, under a starry ‘night sky’ which casts the Aurora Borealis. On Sunday and Wednesday nights in December, they will screen Christmas films including It’s A Wonderful Life, Miracle On 34th Street and recent blockbuster, The Greatest Showman.

 

5) Backyard Cinema: Christmas at the Snow Kingdom & Winter Night Garden

Backyard Cinema is where alternative cinema experiences in London all begun, and Christmas is when the company pulls out all the stops. Experience this year’s cinematic extravaganza, Christmas at the Snow Kingdom, in Wandsworth. To get in, you’ll need to locate the secret entrance and speak the magic password. Alternatively, check out their Winter Night Garden – featuring an enchanted woodland set up. Backyard Cinema’s line-up includes family-friendly films such as Toy Story 4, Elf and The Muppets Christmas Carol. Beyond Christmas, they will show hit live-action Disney films from 2019 including Aladdin and The Lion King. Now that’s how you beat the January blues!

 

6) The Luna Winter Cinema

The Luna Cinema knows how to bring magic to the cinema no matter what season it is, and this winter their festive screenings are taking place in the jaw-dropping Pavilion on the Orangery Lawn at Kensington Palace. Opening with beloved rom-com Love Actually and culminating with everyone’s favourite family movie, Home Alone, their programme only runs for a week and tickets are already selling quickly.

 

7) Festive Film & Fizz with Curzon One Aldwych

For those seeking a luxury film experience, turn your eye to the Festive Film & Fizz with Curzon One Aldwych where your film is accompanied by a glass of Champagne. 8) E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial in Concert

That’s right, the Extraordinary Travelling Film Show is being hosted by the UK’s tallest skyscraper this year!

This Christmas it’s getting spruced up with festive decorations and hosting your favourite films. Kicking off with How the Grinch Stole Christmas, this three-day cinematic event has two screenings per day to choose from.
