They say that laughter is the best medicine, and who can argue that a night out with live comedy is seriously good fun? Mix in drinks and a few of your closest friends and you’re sure to be in for a hell of an evening.
The final touch to this is somewhere to sleep in comfort after a night of belly laughing, so why not check into the Paddington Park Grand after some live comedy shows in bustling London? Here’s our pick of the city’s best laughs to set you off on the right path.
The Top Secret Comedy Club
An institution on the London comedy circuit, this spot is renowned for welcoming some pretty big names with the likes of Russell Howard and John Bishop making appearances. Each show hosts three comedians who all perform a 20-30 minute set, meaning there’s likely to be somebody that your entire group will find funny. What’s more, the venue boasts a seriously cheap bar, especially given its Covent Garden location. Perfect for a big night out when the jokes and drinks are flowing in equal measure.
The Comedy Store
Another popular spot located in Leicester Square, the Comedy Store is a great destination for a night fuelled by laughter. The club hosts a regular show every Tuesday at 8pm called Cutting Edge, which features a team of six comedians discussing and cracking jokes about topical issues. Think Have I Got News For You, but with drinks, food and all of your friends. Yummy snacks like pizza and burgers are available to order and the club also operates a happy hour from 6pm-7pm throughout the weekend.
Camden Comedy Club
This is a much more intimate comedy setting located at the Camden Head Pub. Enjoy a few drinks in the main pub then head upstairs for a night of comedy. The pub has just been refurbished and is now offering a brand new comedy programme with stand-up comedy night and sketch and improv. Fancy yourself as a bit of a comedian? Why not take part in one of their workshops or masterclasses and learn some tricks of the trade?
This place has won the esteemed title of London’s best comedy club three times so seems like a pretty safe bet when looking for somewhere to enjoy some stand-up. With venues in Soho and Kings Cross, they are easily reached from the Paddington Park Grand so there’s no excuse to not spend an evening here with friends. They also hold ‘Absolute and Almost beginners’ comedy courses, a great opportunity to refine your own comedy skills.
The Convent Garden Comedy Club
Make a real night of it with a visit to this comedy spot in trendy Convent Garden, not too far from our Paddington hotels. The club boasts two bars and while there is no food available at the venue, they have teamed up with some great nearby restaurants to provide dinner and comedy packages. Head to Italian restaurant Lulivo and enjoy 15% off your entire bill. If you aren’t ready for the evening to end once the comedians finish then that’s no problem either, comedy tickets also come with free entry to Opal nightclub, located next to embankment station.
