Cirque du Soleil: Quidam is a show that presents the tribulations of a young girl named Zoe who is bored because she has been ignored and neglected by her parents and in order to overcome the ennui of her life, she conjures up the world of Quidam in her fantasies. The main character of the show, Quidam whose name is also the title of the show, is presented as a headless man carrying an umbrella and a bowler hat. The character of Quidam is depicted as a nameless passer-by who is just rushing past as a lonely figure lingering on a street corner. He is supposed to be present in all of us crying out, singing and dreaming. The show has over 50 members in its cast consisting of acrobats, musicians, singers and the main characters playing their part in it.
Zoe is the main character in Quidam and has been depicted as an average girl who is bored and yearns for excitement. Her father is shown to be a self-absorbed person and his hidden personality is reflected in his white shoes. Her mother is full of fear, frustration and desire within her but she conveys a feeling of absence and alienation. The titular character of the show is Quidam who is anonymous, everyone, and no one. He may have stepped out of a surrealist painting or been conjured up out of Zoé’s imagination.
