Part of the charm of visiting London, aside from its food, sights and history of course, is that the city regularly plays host to musical performers from around the world.
August is no slouch in this respect, with a host of well-known and emerging talent bringing their skills to the capital. So, if you’re in the mood for a little music and perhaps some dancing, read on for five shows to check out this August.
St Germain – Grosvenor Square
Always guaranteed to put on an eminently danceable show, St Germain is bringing his brand of jazz-infused house music to London on the 15th of August at the Grosvenor Square venue. And, happily, you don’t have far to go from the Park Grand London Paddington to get to there.
After a fifteen year hiatus, St Germain released his fourth album in 2015 and his Grosvenor Square show will be an epic of house tunes and weird dance moves – miss it at your peril.
Fatboy Slim – Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park
Fatboy Slim has been creating his own unique brand of dance tunes for over thirty years now, but that doesn’t mean the DJ’s live performances have lost any of their lustre.
The show is on the 19th of August, and you can expect high energy and amazing music from one of Britain’s most successful ever DJs. And, even better, the venue is easy to reach from Hyde Park Paddington hotels.
Another act playing at Grosvenor Square – this time on the 16th of August – Sister Sledge is set to deliver a raft of hits from their 70s and 80’s heyday.
Selling millions of albums and singles, Sister Sledge is a compact, fun and a hugely experienced group which knows how to deliver a great show. And don’t be surprised at the number of songs you didn’t realise were theirs.
Jake Shears – Scala
Known as the frontman of outrageous rockers Scissor Sisters, Jake Shears is at the Scala performing in support of his first solo album. The Scala is only a short hop from Park Grand London Paddington, so there’s no reason to miss what is sure to be a great show.
Expect plenty of cheeky banter, infectious tunes and fantastic stage presence, and maybe one or two Scissor Sister songs thrown in for good measure. Shears is a great performer with a keen ear for melody and more showmanship than he knows what to do with – check him out on the 15th of August at Scala.
Britney Spears – The O2
Coming to London on the European leg of ‘Piece of Me’ tour, Britney will be at the O2 on the 26th of August.
Ever the consummate professional – but also a natural entertainer – you can expect a dazzling show, all backed up by Britney’s rich back catalogue of amazing pop hits. Featuring a heady mix of great music, pyrotechnics and Britney’s own irrepressible energy, this is one of the best live music shows in London this summer. Don’t miss it.
